Thoughts on Smoking or Not
On January 1st our lodge, along with all others, goes non-smoking. Being a private organization, we have been able to postpone the inevitable. Change is inevitable.
Time for a reality check … Smoking tobacco is bad for your health! Also, it stains your teeth, gives you bad breath, and can consume your thoughts when the nicotine urge strikes.
Our lodge reeks of smoke. If you do not believe this, just take a deep breath in the middle of the parking lot and then open the out-side door. As you enter the foyer, the smell of smoke is the first thing that hits your nose. Once you enter the Social Quarters, this smell permeates you senses and you clothes.
I am a smoker, for over 50 years. My father was a smoker, as was my grandfather, Unfortunately, my children are smokers. Hope-fully, none of my grandchildren will pick up the habit. I cannot say that I lead by example,
To be in compliance with Moose International rules, our lodge will have a separate smoking area. Personally, I think this will be a good thing. How many times have I just ‘lit up’ out of reflex? Now I will have to think about having a smoke. Maybe this is not such a bad thing...
Some members are angry with the upcoming change. Understand-able. I am not angry. In this situation, I am a realist. I don’t smoke in my own home. Why should I feel entitled enough to stink up our lodge home?
